Gordon joined Street Sense as Deputy Editor in July 2021. Prior to that, he launched and grew a local news organization in Washington, DC called Street Justice. With that similarly named organization, Gordon produced daily email newsletters covering neighborhood-level issues that intersect and harm communities. The Street Justice mission was to include, inform, and equip residents with the least power to improve their community.
At Street Sense, Gordon focuses on shepherding the weekly print edition from ideas through reporting and then to layout before the printing press revs up as Tuesday bleeds into Wednesday. Gordon is directing Street Sense to build on our early efforts producing multimedia storytelling and providing virtual civic participation options.
Gordon is a graduate of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and he completed a master’s degree in public policy from George Washington University in 2014. Gordon has panic disorder, depression, and irritable bowel syndrome — conditions he shares with tens of millions of other Americans and for which he hopes greater awareness drives vastly improved civic responses.
