Shelter
~The New York Avenue Shelter is a low-barrier shelter program open to anyone who identifies as male over the age of 18.
~The shelter provides a hot dinner, access to case management staff, showers, and a bed on a nightly basis.
~It is open from 7 pm to 7 am daily pending weather alerts issued by DC government.
~Shuttle service to downtown Washington, DC is provided several times per day to assist clients in getting to and from work, day programs and other resources.
~The shelter also serves as a hypothermia emergency shelter during the coldest months of the year, from November to March.
~Residents are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and provided a cot/bed and sheets/blanket

Employment Assistance
~ “Employment Programs: 24 hour access to the facility for job ready residents who are competitively employed.  Social Workers provide case management and job readiness and search services.  Residents who are competitively employed put 30% of their gross income into a personal bank account that is monitored by the clinical team for 6 months.  These savings are used to secure permanent housing.”
~They also provide professional clothing to residents for job interviews.

Medical Care
~There is a “Medical clinic operated by Unity Health Care for the Homeless 6 hours a week, Monday and Tuesday 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.”
