What I’ve Seen Downtown

Five years ago, where I sell the paper downtown was a nice place. You could walk around and enjoy the area. Now, so much has changed and so fast. So, the good and the bad.
The bad is seeing young kids doing a lot of things I didn’t do when I was coming up. I try to talk with them. Some listen. But others ask how I expect to give them advice. I told them about how I have been out of jail for five years now. I think that counts when it comes to being able to give advice to certain people. I tell them to stay away from dope.
The good is that I want to thank everyone for the things they gave me for my birthday. I know I haven’t been writing much lately, but I would still like to thank those people. One other thing is on my mind: I would like to ask people to keep Susan, who helped me publish my book, in your prayers. She is better now but is still going through some ups and downs.

Gerald’s book, “Still Standing: how an ex-con found salvation in the floodwaters of Katrina” is available for purchase on Amazon.com.
