Thank You, N Street Village

Photo of a sign cardboard sign that reads "N STREET VILLAGE" with a sketch of houses, stuck in the grass outside a home.

Johnathan Comer

For all the times we complained…
I want to say thanks instead.

You wouldn’t know kindness
till you saw
Tifereth-Israel Temple
feeding our camp on Christmas Day
Turkey, stuffing, trimmings,
Even wrapped gifts.
What a surprise!
And I thought
They didn’t believe!
In what?
Goodness, love, agape
are universal virtues.

I haven’t been able to believe
in Christmas, either,
for such a long time
coming.

So this 2018,
I’ll try to:
Stop feeling ashamed
Stop noticing insults
Stop being afraid
And start taking
the Spirit of Christmas
and sharing it
gracefully
year-round.
