MPD Continues to Seek Justice for Joel Johnson

Person of interest in case

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is still in search of a person or persons who were involved in a homicide on Friday, June 19, 2015 around 10:28 p.m in the 3600 block of Calvert Street NW. The victim of the homicide was Joel Johnson, 53, who passed away from a stabbing. MPD has released the unclear image of a possible suspect, and seeks help from the public identifying the figure.

Johnson was known as a quiet and reserved man who mostly kept to himself and regularly visited the Georgetown Ministry Center. At the time of his death, he was homeless.

“[Johnson] never took more than his share. Other people would try to get more or be greedy. But not him,” said John Mead, one of Johnson’s only close acquaintances, in a previous interview with Street Sense.

Anyone with information should call the police at (202) 727-9099 or send an anonymous message through the department’s text tip line at 50411. Anyone providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible is eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
