Opinion: An International Perspective on Street Performers

Street performers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

There is a city in Indonesia called Jakarta where many of the homeless people do what is called busking, or street performing. They do it to survive. But it seems Indonesia’s  government does not care about these people. BBC News reported that In 2007, Jakarta enacted a law banning donations to “buskers, beggars and hawkers.” Buskers who are seen by the police are thrown in jail without trial. I hope when people read this, they will boycott this country and city until things change.
