In the ghetto

Rodney Choice

Where’d the love go, where’s the peace sign?
He love the hood till the ghetto made his niece blind
Where the hood at, where the love go?
They wanna blame it on the children of the ghetto

Shaneka got a baby, I know she going crazy
Shakneka’s just a baby, our babies having babies
He was only ten, smoking space cadet
His first puff, first pull, was his last breath

I tried to teach him right, somebody taught him wrong
Told him who God was, but the devil is strong
He tried to tell me yes, I tried to tell him no
I told him don’t go, he wouldn’t listen tho’

Now it’s yellow tape and a crime scene
Everybody saw it, but nobody saw a thing
In the ghetto where we live at
Where the streets will never say who did that

Rest in peace, Tim
They killed for your car.
You suppose’ to be a star
I still miss you, bra

But these streets ain’t change since your death
I been through a lot since you left
In the ghetto, love just don’t live here no mo’
In the ghetto, in the ghetto, in the ghetto, in the ghetto

Yeah, the block hot, but streets is colder
‘Cause there ain’t no respect amongst thieves and soldiers
Shot his head off his shoulder ’cause he wore the wrong color
Cain and Abel’s why we disrespect each other

For the love of the hood, I seen real people die
I seen real people ride for their piece of the pie
I seen stick-up boys that’a rob you for nothing
Then turn around and kill to rob you for something

Life is like a jay puff, pull fast and it’s gone in a day
So every day, wherever I lay, I just pray to God to see another day
I just see a smile upside down
Ain’t no love in the ghetto part of town

I seen young girls die tryna; set somebody up
Over greed, over lust, or over the bucks.
I seen preacher’s sin, I saw the devil grin
I seen a brother die for choosing money over friends

I seen the ghetto come, I seen the ghetto go
I seen the ghetto die, cause love don’t live there no mo’
