On Jan. 16, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton’s bill to allow the District to work with the National Park Service to maintain and operate NPS properties, including Franklin Square Park, passed the House of Representatives. Mayor Bowser had previously set aside $13.9 million to build new facilities in the poorly maintained 5-acre park located between K and I Streets NW, including public restrooms, a cafe, and a playground. Homeless community members who rely on the park for shelter may face displacement during renovations.
