Fasting for shelters and housing

Two men from the Olive Branch Community in Washington, D.C., have decided to observe this year’s Lent by participating in a fast that will promote awareness of the city’s dearth of housing for its homeless community, particularly for those who speak Spanish.

Harold Moss and Marc Del Fuego hope that their actions during the 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday will bring about the initiative and creation of a bilingual shelter.  Moss and Del Fuego believe that such a shelter is crucial to the survival of the increasing populations of homeless Latino men and women who have slipped through the cracks of a congested, English-speaking shelter system.
