How do you explain to someone,

that you’ve fallen down?

How do you explain, why you look this way now?

Looks don’t last forever, but I couldn’t imagine this never!

How do you explain having no bank account?

When you used to have savings, checking, CDs, an IRA ?

Now there is nothing left to count.

How do you explain where you slept last night?

When there was a place to be safe off the streets,

But you aren’t allowed to “sleep” there? Explain!

How do you explain why you can’t rent an apartment?

Thanks to the economic crash and now the Dow?

How do you explain why you smell like that?

Easy? No place to take a hot shower and that’s a fact!

How do you explain you’re harassed and gang-stalked by police?

Nobody believed you, so the harassment increased?

How do you explain you are falling down?

When you’re swimming in deep waters about to drown.

These are not excuses.

Not even in my abuse(s) did I turn to drug usage.

Easy answer! You don’t know you’ve fallen down,

until after you have hit rock bottom.
