Compassion is needed in the cold

Years ago, oh God it was a very cold, icey night. I just put my blanket down and got in it, shivering. Just when my body heat started to warm me, a police came to me.

I was thinking maybe he was going to ask if I was OK.

Oh no. He told me to get up an’ out.

I am thinking, “Out of where?” I thought I was dreaming. I was put out of underneath a subway at 2 a.m. I slept on a slab of ice. The next day, I couldn’t feel my legs at all.

I told myself this is not going to happen to me again. God is always with us.
