Volunteer Leader and co-creator – Playwriting and Staged Performance Workshop
Elizabeth Kitsos Kang earned an MFA in Acting from the University of Virginia in 1991. Since then, she has been working as a local professional actress, director, scriptwriter, and acting teacher. She has been a part time Theatre Professor at GW since 1996. She has also been directing GW’s freshman orientation Scenes from College Life through their orientation program (Colonial Inauguration) for over 20 years. It is through this program that Elizabeth has worked on important diversity issues. Using theatre as a tool for educating, she has helped students create and perform scenes that touch upon important diversity issues including homophobia, racism and other forms of bigotry.
Elizabeth is a founding member/teaching artist, and the Managing Director Emeritus of Educational Theatre Company (ETC); an Arlington based non-profit outreach Theatre Company. ETC brings Shakespeare and other theatre classes, workshops and camps to Arlington students and communities, and she has been teaching, directing and working on the staff since its inception in 1998. She has participated in several ETC productions over the years as a teacher, director acting coach, and mentor. Her work with ETC’s Creative Age program has been her main focus in the past few years. She has taught theatre classes to senior citizens and in addition, developed and directed intergenerational classes with older and younger adults creating devised work from conversations based on themes from plays read aloud. She also works with DC’s Street Sense organization, bringing theatre classes and exercises to homeless adults in our area.
