The Pelican and the Swan

Barbara Pollard

The pelican and the swan shared a lake together.

“This is always so beautiful,” Pelican said one day.

Swan agreed.

“Some people think that only birds of a feather stick together,” said Pelican.

“Well, those people must sometimes forget that perhaps they are more similar than dissimilar to each other,” Swan said. “They are all one race. And we are all creatures cohabitating on this diverse earth.”

“Perhaps they are still learning,” Pelican mused.

“I suppose,” Swan said. “But if we can share this lake together, why can’t they share this Earth together? Is it because of their feathers?”

“Aw don’t think too hard on it,” said Pelican, “Hey – Let’s go fishing!!!”

And off they went.
